Originally started in 1993 as a pilot program, HOME-New Mexico (HNM) was created as a response to concerns by a statewide coalition of human service agencies about a lack of housing services targeting low-income people with disabilities. Since its incorporation in 1995 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency, HNM has provided homebuyer counseling for over 1300 people with disabilities and has helped over 315 families become homeowners.

Recent Events

In April, 2002, HNM was recognized by Congresswoman Heather Wilson and County Commissioner Ken Sanchez for its role in helping families in HUD's Section 8 program become homeowners.

In June, 2001, HNM was co-host to the Fannie Mae Regional Conference on the HomeChoice program. HOME-New Mexico is the lead agency in the New Mexico HomeChoice coalition. HomeChoice is a Fannie Mae mortgage prouct designed to meet the special underwriting needs of low- and moderate-income borrowers who have disabilities, or who have family members with disabilities living with them.
